How does the content menu work?

The content menu consists of the navigation options on the left side of most Mowia pages. At the very top is the title "NAVIGATION." Clicking this reveals a link back to the home page as well as access to all available categories. Directly below the navigation option are links to major features on the site. These links include the category's home page, the discussion forums, and a list of all modules active in the current forum.

The heart of the content menu is directly below the general purpose links. Colored-coded for easy recognition, this section of the content menu consists of three parts: module options, relative navigation, and sub-forums.

Appearing in blue at the bottom of the content menu exists the sub-forum navigation. Selecting a sub-forum narrows down the content that appears in the right portion of your screen, known as the content pane. If no sub-forums appear in the content menu, you cannot narrow your results any more. If you are browsing within a module, the sub-forums will only appear if they are part of that module. For example, you wouldn't find a sub-forum on car sales in a module related to car modification pictures. In such a module, the sub-forums would include forums dedicated to specific car makes and models. This would let you limit what car modificaiton pictures you want see.

Appearing in gray, directly above the sub-forum navigation, you will find the relative nagivation. These links let you navigate through the site relative to your current position. The "Leave Module" option will appear when you are browsing through a module. After selecting this option, you will remain in the active sub-forum, however the content pane will return to its default state. For example, say you were browsing the Daily News module in the sub-forum Computer Hardware. By clicking "Leave Module," the content will switch from pure news to any content that falls under the Computer Hardware forum.

The "Return to Parent" option will appear whenever you are not browsing the highest parent forum of a category. Selecting this option will return you to your current sub-forum's parent. For example, if you were browsing the Networking sub-forum, which falls directly under Computer Hardware, returning to parent would broaden your search from networking-related content to all computer hardware-related content. If you are viewing a specific module entry, selecting "Return to Parent" will return you to that entry's parent forum within the module.

The "Switch to Forum" and "Switch to Content" options let you switch back and forth between the content view and the forum view. Switching between these views simply changes how the content is presented in the right content pane.

Appearing in red at the top of the content menu, module options are only visible on module pages and when the module lets the user perform a specific task. A frequent option lets you submit content to the module, and the link will be labeled as such.
